Businessman Panel to sweep FPCCI elections: Senator

KARACHI: The Businessmen Panel, led by Tariq Saeed, is to sweep the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) annual elections due shortly, a business leader said Sunday.

We enjoy full faith and trust of the business community since decades which will play a decisive role in the elections, said former president FPCCI Senator Haji Ghulam Ali.

Speaking at a meeting attended by hundreds of Presidents and office-bearers of different chambers and associations, he said that grouping in an active institution was shocking but temporary. He said that Tariq Sayeed had served the business community selflessly for forty years without any allegation of corruption and favouritism.

Speaking on the occasion, President FPCCI Zarkia Usman said that Tariq Sayeed had not accumulated wealth and that he would not allow anyone to take FPCCI as hostage. “Some people have formed a small group so that they can achieve their objectives which is impossible otherwise,” he added. Senator Haji Adeel said that the economic situation was far from good and we need strong leadership like Tariq Sayeed to represent business community. He said that fake statements and buying of votes wouuld never serve the purpose of those trying to hijack the FPCCI.

Businessman Group candidate Anjum Nisar, who is Chairman of PIAF, former president LCCI and third largest taxpayer of the country, said that not a single leader of our group was facing any probe while the leaders of contending group were facing NAB probe for embezzling millions in the construction of FPCCI Capital Office building.

He informed that so far, 34 chambers out of 44 and 84 associations out of 104 had reposed confidence in Businessman Group while all the 18 chambers but two in the KPK, GB and Fata had assured full support in the elections. He said that Tariq Sayeed had not used his position to establish factories and buy properties like others. He said that the leaders of the newly formed group had never served the business community and the outcome of the elections would expose the tall claims of rejected people, said Nisar.
