LAHORE:,,, Hundreds of industrialists and industrial workers belonging to Kattar Bund Road Industrial Area Tuesday staged protest against lack of infrastructure, massive load shedding & indifferent attitude of the government departments towards the welfare of the dilapidated roads and sewerage system.
The protestors blocked Multan Road, burnt tyres, chanted slogans against district administration and sought immediate help of the Chief Minister Punjab to get their issues resolved.
The Protestors said that their huge investments are going waste only because of the apathy of the government departments towards the industrial area that houses more than 150 multinational and local industrial units. They said that they were contributing hefty revenue to the national exchequer but receiving step motherly treatment.
They said that the Chief Minister Punjab was spending all his energies for the promotion of economic activities in the province but some elements were trying to apply reverse gear to all his endeavours.
The President Kattar Bund Road Industrial Association Mehmood Ghaznavi said that they had taken to the streets only give a clear message to the administration that they were unable to continue with their businesses in present circumstances.
He said that dilapidated infrastructure was not only discouraging the local investments but was also giving a wrong message to the foreign buyers who visit the area for business purposes.
He said that they wanted of the Chief Minister that the Kattar Bund Road Industrial area should be declared an Industrial Estate as it is ideally located and its infrastructure should immediately be developed in the larger interests of the economy.
He said that there was no denying the fact that the water disposal project initiated by the Punjab government was much needed step but it must be in consultation with area industrialists as there exists, lot of confusion and unrest among the industrial units working in the area. He said that industrialists wanted that the Kattar Bund Industrial area should be linked to water disposal project. All roads in the area should be reconstructed as soon as the project is over. Industries to be affected due to this mega project should be compensated properly. There should be enough greenery around this project.
He underlined that there are 150 multinational and local industrial units in Kattar Bund Industrial area and are generating around Rs 800 million, but it is very unfortunate that they have no say in government projects and policies.
