Peshawar:,,, Cardiology Department of Lady Reading Hospital (LRH), Peshawar has been in the fore front of offering clinical, non-invasive and interventional services to patients of all age groups, diverse strata and coming from all over the province, FATA and Afghanistan.
The faculty of Cardiology Department of LRH had the unique distinction of being asked to chair three important scientific sessions, present two state-of-art lectures on management of heart attack patients and improving outcomes of patients with valve heart problem and submit two research posters at recently held World Congress of Cardiology at Melbourne, Australia. This is one of the highest forums for scientific interaction in the world of cardiology.
Earlier in late March, in American College of Cardiology meeting held at Washington, the faculty of Cardiology Department was invited for a state of art talk on management of patients presenting with acute coronary syndrome in resource restrained environments. In the recently held Pakistan Cardiac Society meeting a panel of experts selected eight best papers published in the official journal of Pakistan Cardiac Society called Pakistan Heart Journal.
Out of eight best papers, five were from Cardiology Department of Lady Reading Hospital. The Department had the distinction of presenting the maximum number of research papers in this national meeting of Pakistan Cardiac Society.
Prof. Dr. Mohammad Hafizullah re-known Cardiologist and Head Department of Cardiology LRH took over as the President of Pakistan Cardiac Society recently and has declared his agenda of reinvigorating the oldest and biggest medical society of the country. He has prioritized to work for establishing preventive cardiology Departments and advance the agenda of preventive cardiology nationally.
He intends to introduce regular basic and advanced training programs in various fields of cardiology. Establish a vibrant and interactive website sharing the latest information for general public and cardiologists. He believes in introducing system of credentialing and maintaining a registry of cardiac ailments and invasive procedures nationally.
The hard work and dedication to research has been recognized by and the Department has been awarded as maximal research output Department continuously for the last six years in the annual and biennial meetings of Pakistan Cardiac Society. Over the last two years, the official journal of Pakistan Cardiac Society ‘Pakistan Heart Journal’ in publication for the last 44 years from Karachi, has been shifted and published from Cardiology Department, Lady Reading Hospital.
This has seen emergence of a robust and revamped journal being published quarterly with more original research and review articles. The journal is supported by an active and interactive website hence attracting quite a few international articles.
This effort led to re-recognition of the journal by PMDC and more importantly award of higher rating by Higher Education Commission. The baton of Editor in Chief being held by Prof. Dr.Mohammad Hafizullah has been passed to Dr. Adnan Gul where as Dr. Tahir Shah and Dr. Rauf served as Managing editors.#
