ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA), has launched a plantation drive of olive trees at different areas of Islamabad in collaboration with National Agriculture Research Council (PARC).
In the first phase of this drive, CDA is going to plant five thousand (5000) olive trees. According to CAD chairman Maroof Afzal, planting an olive sapling at the green belt along the Kashmir Highway will not only give fruits but their seeds will also be used for extraction of olive oil.
He said olive plant is unique in its nature and during the next phase thousands of olive plants also will be planted in the federal capital, so that besides significant increase in the green character of the city, maximum benefit could also be obtained from these olive plants.
He said the idea of launching plantation of olive trees is to also enhance the awareness among the citizens and persuade them to come forward and join hands with CDA for the improvement of the environment of the federal capital.
