KARACHI: Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (R.A) and other martyrs of Karbala was observed peacefully on Thursday in Karachi like other parts of the country amid tight security.
Chehlum processions were staged in different areas of the city while the main procession emerged from Nishtar Park and culminated at Imambargah Hussainia Iranian in Kharadar.
For ensuring foolproof security, authorities had sealed shops and business centers along the whole route of the procession.
Pillion riding was banned for two days in different cities of Sindh including Karachi.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh had directed for foolproof security arrangements. He also called for taking solid steps for maintaining strict vigil along with the routes of processions and majalis.
Before this, IGP Sindh also visited central command and control centre established in Central Police Office.
In briefing to IGP, he was informed about the security of processions and mourners meetings in different parts of the city. He was told that 16562 personnel of SPR, RRF police commandos are performing their duties in which 5918 personnel of South Zone, 4766 West and 5878 personnel were deployed for security measures.
During procession, rangers and police snipers were deployed atop buildings on the route of the Chehlum procession.
