Child Survival Unit will open in Lyari Hospital soon

KARACHI: The Lyari General Hospital, Karachi, administration has decided to establish Child Survival Unit in hospital under public private partnership, which will open for public from January 2016, it was learned on Tuesday.

Reliable sources at Lyari General Hospital Karachi informed that the hospital’s administration had decided to set up Child Survival Unit in healthcare under public private partnership where malnourished babies, children suffering from diphtheria, tetanus, pneumonia and measles will be treated by experts.

Sources said management and treatment facilities will be provided to children while counselling of parents will also be done at unit by the medical experts. They informed that doctors, skilled nurses and midwives will be posted in unit for treatment of newborn babies. The new born babies will be shifted to child survival unit for examination or screening.

The Child Survival, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), had provided necessary assistance to the hospital administration for establishing of Child Survival Unit in hospital.

Provincial Minister for Health Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar is expected to perform the opening ceremony of unit in next month. Medical Superintendent, Lyari General Hospital, Dr Aziz Soomro, when contacted, said all necessary arrangement has been finalized to establish Child Survival Unit in hospital. He said unit will be opened for public from January 2016 which will largely benefit the area people.
