Close coordination among civic bodies stressed

KARACHI: Administrator Karachi Saqib Ahmed Soomro on Monday urged the need for close coordination among all municipal bodies so that they could work jointly with all the available machinery and manpower in the ongoing cleanliness campaign in the city.

He directed parks department to expedite tree plantation work. “The cleaning of roads, flyovers and bridges in the jurisdiction of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation must be done on permanent basis,” he said while speaking at a meeting about cleanliness drive at the Civic Centre.

The metropolitan commissioner, director general parks and other relevant officers were also present on the occasion.

It was informed in the meeting that the municipal organizations in Karachi had removed and transferred about 8500 tonnes of garbage to the landfill sites in the past week, whereas over 20,000 saplings had been planted in the city. The trees, electric poles and pavements had been painted and wall-chalking removed to restore the beauty of the city.
