Peshawar: KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has said that the govt and people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are quite eager to welcome and host IDPs from North Waziristan Agency due to military operation there. He said IDPs are our special guests and we will discharge our national responsibility to look after them in befitting manner.
He said we learnt about the operation in NWA a bit late but we have made adequate arrangements for the stay, shelter and needs of IDPs in a short period. Provincial govt, he said, has immediately released Rs.350 million for IDPs while PTI workers will also extend all out support to them by visiting and helping them in the relief camps.
He further revealed that besides arrangements for food, health and transportation of IDPs at border areas of the province including southern districts, polio teams have also been deputed to administer polio drops to children before entering Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He was addressing media conference CM Secretariat Peshawar. PTI provincial president Azam Khan Swati, General Secretary Khalid Masood, Secretary Information Ayesha Gulalai MNA, President Southern region and Minister Revenue Ali Amin Gandapur, Minister E&T Mian Jamsheduddin Kakakhel, Advisor to CM on Economic Affairs Rafaqatullah Babar, PDMA and other relief organizations authorities were also present on this occasion.
Chief Minister said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is presently facing a war like situation. “My govt knew about the military operation late through media but we hurriedly released Rs.350 million for IDPs and also established relief camps at border areas of the province including FR Bannu where all basic facilities including electricity, water and other requirements are made available”, he added and further elaborated one thousand tents, mats and other essential commodities have also been arranged in the first leg. He said that so far about 70 thousand IDPs have entered in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
However he said that only one family stayed at the relief camps because most of the IDPs from NWA had relatives in southern districts including Bannu to host them at their homes as per their traditions. He said that federal govt has promised Rs.500 million and NDMA Rs.100 million for the IDPs.
He said provincial govt has arranged a food package of Rs.7 thousand for each family per month while every family entering the province will be given Rs.5 thousand for one time as non food item. Similarly he said that transport has also been arranged to carry IDPs from border to the relief camps. He said that IDPs will also be given Ramzan Package during the holy month of Ramzan.
Pervez Khattak said that arrangements for registration of IDPs have also been made with proper record keeping of their data. He said that Pak Army is also helping the civil administration in the registration process. To a question he said that provincial govt will never appeal for help in hosting IDPs to any world agency including UNO.
He said that we will prefer to stay on our own feet and host our IDPs by our own. About deploy Army, he said that though Army is deployed in Punjab and Karachi but our Police has become real force and we fully trust in its capabilities.
He said that though a front line province against terrorism, we will never seek help of Army because our Police and civil administration is quite capable to deliver efficiently whereas Pak Army has to play role of defending our geographical frontiers.
He said that PTI will help IDPs on the party bases as well. In this regard an important meeting was held with the provincial and district level leadership in Peshawar wherein future course of action has been decided while PTI workers will be activated to help IDPs in discipline manner, he concluded.
