CM directs to prepare a project for cleanliness for whole KP

Peshawar: The Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak has directed the concerned authorities to prepare an integrated project for cleanliness, waste collection, disposal, recycling and carbon credit achievement for the whole province starting from urban centres but extending to all the rural villages.

While talking to a group of different international consultants, the Chief Minister said that his government had already started work on the cleanliness, wastes collection and its safe disposal as well as environmental protection of urban centres particularly Peshawar.

He pointed out that in future the Tehsil Municipal Administrations will collect and dispose off the wastes so collected from the urban centres from throughout the respective urban areas however; “our villages are equally dirty” posing environmental threats and thus it cannot be further ignored, he added.

He also said that in view of the worsening global climatic conditions and the challenges they pose, his Government had launched planting billion saplings of which over 250 million were being planted this year. He also said that land had already been acquired for wastes disposal in Peshawar and the program will soon be practically launched.

However, he stressed that there was a dire need for proper recycling of these wastes so that the same are utilized both for energy generation and water conservation. On the other hand, the KP Government has an opportunity to earn from carbon credit by controlling the production of carbon, methane and other ozone gases. Therefore, he directed that not only an integrated study be conducted in this regard but a comprehensive program be chalked out so that all the aforementioned benefits are derived at the optimum level.

On this occasion Mr. Luis Fernandes-Reyes of Senamco UAE, Mohammad Faisal Janjua of PAL Group, Brigadier (r) Saeed Sharif of Sundus industrial zones planning fame, internationally popular environmentalists Mohammad Bilal, Col. ® Shahid, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Dr. Shahzad Khan Bangash, Secretary Local Government and Rural Development, Jameel Ahmed, Chief Executive of WSSP were also present besides others.
