CM for declaring Kachho, Kohistan, Thatta areas as calamity hit

KARACHI: Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah on Monday directed Senior Member Board of Revenue to declare the areas of Kachho, Kohistan and some parts of Thatta district as calamity hit.

He directed the provincial food, revenue and relief departments, concerned commissioner and deputy commissioners to distribute wheat among 34,000 identified drought affected families with 50 kg to each family for one month on the pattern of Tharparkar district with immediate effect.

“Provincial livestock department should ensure vaccination and supply of fodder to the animals and also assign PDMA to start the work for the installation of 1067 hand pumps to ensure the potable drinking water to the drought affected people of those areas,” he directed while presiding over a meeting regarding undertaking the relief measures for the drought affected people residing in Kachho & Kohistan spread in Dadu and Jamshoro districts and some parts of District Thatta held at Chief Minister House here.

Sindh Minister for Revenue & Relief Makhdoom Jamil Zaman, Advisor to CM for Finance Syed Murad Ali Shah Sindh Minister for Wildlife Gyan Chand Esrani, MNA Malik Asad Sikander, Senior Member Board of Revenue Malik Israr Ahmed, Secretary to Chief Minister Alumdin Bullo, Secretary Finance Sohail Rajpute, Secretary Relief Roshan Sheikh, Commissioner Hyderabad Syed Asif Hyder Shah, Managing Director PDMA Syed Salman Shah and Deputy Commissioners of the concerned district attended the meeting.

Addressing the meeting, the Chief Minister Sindh said that they must have to find out the permanent socio-economic solution to the people residing in arid zone areas of Sindh. He said that in this continuation, we had planned to establish Thar Development Authority and directed the officers concerned to speed up that task.

He proposed that there could be one such organization for all the areas of arid zones in Sindh but if there was any difficulty and bottleneck in implementation, then they could establish separate organization for each arid Zone. The Chief Minister also expressed his apprehensions over the water shortage for the wildlife in these areas, specially at Kheer Thar National Park and directed provincial minister for wildlife to prepare a plan for the supply of water to the wildlife and to ensure that there should be no threat to the wildlife in these areas.

He directed him to come with specific plan in next meeting to be held shortly. The Chief Minister directed PDMA to start the work for installation of 305 hand pumps in Dadu district, 303 in Thatta and 459 in Jamshoro district to ensure safe drinking water to inhabitants.

He also directed them to arrange energy biscuits for the drought affected children as well. The chief minister took serious notice on the report presented in the meeting that 10 RO plants in Thana Bola Khan and three in Manjhand are still not energized since these installed more than a year ago.

The Chief Minister directed the organization under contract to energize RO plants on solar energy to facilitate the people for which investment was made. The Chief Minister Sindh also asked the Senior Member Board of Revenue to get compensation cheques for the heirs of 17 deceased, who were killed in the building collapse incident at Ilyas Abad, Hyderabad where he (CM) had announced compensation for the loss of lives.
