KARACHI: Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah has directed the management of K-Electric and Karachi Water & Sewerage Board (KWSB) to ensure uninterrupted electricity and water supply to the people of Karachi during the holy month of Ramazan and upcoming monsoon season and exempt the Mazar-e-Quaid from load shedding forever.
He directed the both organisations to get their technical bottlenecks if any resolved before the advent of Ramazan Sharif and ensure that people may not suffer because of their official proceedings or confrontation. This he directed while presiding over the meeting with management of K-electric here at CM House Karachi. Special Assistant to CM Waqar Mehdi, Provincial Secretary Energy Agha Wasif, Incharge Secretary to CM Shafique Mahesar, Additional Commissioner Karachi Aslam Khoso, Chief Executive Officer K-electric Nayar Hasan, CDO SM Taha and officers also attended the meeting.
Taking the notice of Public complaints about the load shedding of electricity and shortage of water, the Chief Minister Sindh said that he was frequently receiving such complaints from industrialists, businessmen and professional communities and common man.
He said that though supply of electricity was not our responsibility or comes under our domain but people by holding responsible us became annoyed at the Sindh government and created problems of law and order for local administration. Similarly water supply and sewerage system was being badly affected because of load shedding and people go on protest, as such for efficient water supply and sewerage system uninterrupted electric supply was very much essential.
The chief minister Sindh said that shortage of energy or load shedding is giving birth to many socio-economic problems and we are talking about this matter in the meetings of Council of Common Interest (CCI) time to time. He said that we understand that K-Electric might had some administrative and technical problems but Sindh government was ready not only to extend its full administrative support but also to help them to resolve their problems pertaining to federal government with the support of Prime Minister. The chief minister Sindh said that we were financially strengthening the KWSB and had restored its subsidy only in the head of electric payment and asked the management of K-Electric to reconsider the request of KWSB for its new connections of water supply pumping machines at Gulshan-e-Iqbal and other places to facilitate the citizens at large.
He said that differences in organizational transaction was routine work and same were being resolved time by time but people should not suffer because of the departmental confrontation.
He said that people deserved at least uninterrupted basic facilities such as supply of electricity and water. The chief minister directed the managements to evolve such a mechanism and strategy so that there should be no load shedding during the holy month of Ramazan, specially at the time of Sehri, Aftar and prayer time.
The Mazar-e-Quaid should be exempted from electricity load shedding to facilitate the visitors forever. Talking in the meeting, CEO K-Electric Nayar Hussain said that recently their 220KV electric line was damaged because of seepages that created problem. He said that work for restoration of this line was in progress but meantime the areas concerned were being provided electricity from other feeders.
Besides, his management was also experiencing shortfall of 80MW due to increase in demand. However he assured the meeting that full electric supply would be ensured without any interruption and there would be no load shedding, specially at the Sehri and Aftar timings. However, he stressed for the clearance of outstanding against KWSB.
