CMCH patients deprived of several laboratory tests

KARACHI: Chandka Medical College Hospital still lacks many essential laboratory test facilities. Associate Professor of Pathology, Benazir Bhutto Medical University, Dr. Ghulam Shabir Shaikh, told PPI here on Thursday that hormonal test, iron profile, B12 profiles, drugs level, cardiac profile enzyme, CRF and DNA tests should be available in CMCH for which patients are always asked to carry out these tests from private labs.

He said that a well equipped forensic laboratory must also be established here where all modern facilities, equipment and instruments should be provided to conduct tests of black stone to deal with medico-Legal cases apart from other tests. It must be mentioned here that black stone is a poison easily available in the market on cheap rates and is being used by the youngsters for committing suicides, but its detecting facilities are not available in the entire province.

Dr Shaikh further underlined the importance of PCR & Elisa tests which are available but reserved only for Hepatitis cases hence another PCR machine & Elisa machine must be supplied to CMCH to carry out other relevant cases’ tests as well. He said Automatic Chemistry Analyzer should also be procured so that rush of the patients could be decreased on one machine otherwise it will become useless soon. He said these machines should be urgently procured & supplied along with equipment for new tests so that poor needy patients should not suffer. It must be mentioned here that Dr. Shabir Shaikh is the sole pioneer of Central Laboratory of Chandka Medical College Hospital and through his efforts sub labs were also established in other blocks of the hospital.
