CMCH’s heart patients at trouble; Here is why

LARKANA: The 55-bed capacity Coronary Care Unit (CCU) of Chandka Medical College Hospital is running without proper head of department since last over two months, resulting in improper treatment to the heart patients.

Prof Saeed Sangi retired from government service on June 30, 2014, and the then Associate Professor of Cardiology, Dr Javed Siyal took over who too has left the job and has joined NICVD Karachi over two months back. His duties were looked after by Cardiologist Dr Abdul Majeed Shaikh who too said goodbye to the job on attaining superannuation age on September 07, 2015, leaving behind the most lifesaving department at the mercy of non-specialists.

Dr Ghulam Murtaza Soomro, Medical Superintendent, Chandka Medical College Hospital, Larkana, wrote a letter to Sindh Health Secretary Dr Saeed Mangnejo explaining him the situation and demanded that Dr Sikander Shaikh transferred out of this hospital to Sindh Chief Minister’s hometown Khairpur on promotion from BS-18 to 19 may be reposted here in the interest of the poor ailing people but nothing has been despite passage of over one week.

Approximately 150 heart patients visit CCU OPD daily who belong to so many districts as there is serious dearth of specialists of this vital section of the human life for which Benazir Bhutto Medical University & Chandka Medical College authorities have also done nothing as yet to overcome the shortage. A cardiologist has been recruited recently but his appointment orders have been withheld owing to recently imposed ban on fresh appointments by Sindh Government which must be relaxed keeping in view the woes of the suffering poor mankind.

A senior doctor working in CCU told PPI that 5 to 8 patients facing acute heart ailments are admitted for treatment in the ward daily and their 5-bed emergency ward always remain full. Will the Sindh government and other concerned authorities open their eyes, listen and resolve the grievances on emergency basis, which are faced by the populace of their province. Copies of this letter were also sent to the Larkana division and district administration.
