KARACHI:,,, Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui and Administrator Karachi Rauf Akhtar Farooqui in a joint statement on Thursday ordered the people, who have constructed houses on drains, to vacate the places or face action.
Joint visits of city administration and local body’s officers, aimed at expediting cleaning work of drains and removal of encroachments on drains, had been started recently.
Farooqui said that all illegal structures near Piyala Hotel had been demolished and challans were made in the assistant commissioner’s court against violation of municipal laws.
Siddiqui said that the chief sanitary inspectors were given a week’s time to clean the area completely otherwise strict action would be taken against them.
They expressed these views while talking to media on a visit to storm water drains of district South along officers of city administration and local government.
They also checked the prizes of fresh milk, meat and other utilities during the visit of PIDC, Machar Colony, Kalri Nullah, Nehr-e-Khayyam, Hijrat Colony, Manzoor Colony, Administration Society, Baloch Colony Nullah, and Mehmoodabad Nullah and held two people on dumping garbage in the Railway Colony Nullah.
“The residents of the areas should prevent people from dumping garbage in rivers and drains and only dump it in the Kachra kundies from where the concerned organization would lift it,” they appealed.
The administrator said that the commissioner has provided lots of help to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation regarding civic sanitary conditions and cleaning of drains. He said that the recent joint visits have been fruitful for the city as cleaning works were accelerated.
