Commissioner directs to resolve issues of 300-year-old locality

KARACHI: Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqi on Thursday said civic agencies were being activated and efforts being made to make the standards of their services better to make the city clean and green.

He said while speaking with the residents of the Baba Bhit Island in a meeting. Administrator District Municipal Corporation (DMC) South Afzal Zaidi, officials of KWSB and assistant commissioner harbour were also present on the occasion.

The commissioner Karachi said that chief minister Sindh had directed the officials to visit the area under their jurisdiction to get themselves aware of the grievances of the people.

“Baba Bhit Island is 300 years old locality. Every effort would be made to resolve the issues of the people living in this old locality,” he said.

He ordered KWSB to take effective steps for smooth supply of water to the island according to the needs of the people.

On this occasion people of the area made a complaint of contaminated water which was denied by the official concerned in the meeting. The concerned engineer was asked to certify that the water being supplied was not contaminated: “if the certification found to be false then the officials of water board would be taken to task, he said.

Commissioner directed the administrator DMC South to get install streetlights in the Baba Bhit Island and make better arrangements of cleanliness in this regard.

He also directed the assistant commissioner Harbor to set up a lease camp at Baba Bhit Island for the facilitation of the residents to complete the process of lease of the residents needed.
