Commissioner reviews sports competition arrangements for Defence Day

KARACHI: Deputy commissioners of all the districts would hold sports competitions along other events in their limits including floodlight cricket match, in cooperation with different organizations and sports associations to pay tribute to the martyrs on Defence Day, said Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui on Monday while chairing Divisional Sports Committee meeting.

The meeting reviews arrangements for the sports competitions to be held on Defence Day. Director Local Government Rubina Asif, additional deputy commissioners of all the districts, representatives of different organizations, representative of sports department Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industries Gulzar Feroz, Sports Consultant National Bank of Pakistan Ghulam Muhammad and representatives of private organizations working for sports activities were also present on the occasion.

The meeting was told that a floodlight cricket match would be held between the teams of Deputy Commissioner Central-XI and Deputy Commissioner West-XI at Asghar Ali Shah Stadium on the night of 5th September. Fireworks would be done and national songs would be played at this event.

“Sindh Boxing Association (SBA) and deputy commissioner district central would jointly hold two boxing tournaments on Defence Day, one at New Karachi Gymkhana and the other at Kashmir Road Sports Complex,” General Secretary SBA Muhammad Asghar Baloch said.

The meeting was told that three-day inter-collegiate women archery tournaments would be held under Sindh Archery Association. A girls cycle race would be held in cooperation with district administration on 5th September and a women hockey match has also been arranged on 6th September.
