Concern on poor recovery ratio

Karachi: Provincial Minister for Excise & Taxation, Gyan Chand Essrani has said that the ratio of recovery of property tax is not satisfactory.

All measures to be taken to get the fixed target and he will not compromise on the recovery of the revenue because revenue is national trust onus. This he said while presiding over a meeting regarding property & professional tax held in his office.

In the meeting the Minister was informed that during the current financial year the target of property division was Rs. 2247 million while almost 99% target had been achieved. On this occasion property officers and inspectors of 23 divisions briefed the minister about the recovery; however, the provincial Minister expressed his dissatisfaction and directed to increase number of the staff members in all divisions and no one should be transferred from the said division till one year.

Provincial Minister while giving warning to those officers who were unable to achieve the target, directed them to survey their respective areas and issue assessment report of new unites. He warned the non-payer of property tax to pay the tax immediately otherwise they have to face legal proceedings. In the meeting Secretary Excise, Mudassir Iqbal, Director General, Shabbir Ahmed Shaikh, Director Property, Sibtain Bukhari, Director Professional, Ayub Pathan and other officers also present.
