SIALKOT: The resignation of Pasrur-Sialkot based Federal Minister for Science and Technology Zahid Hamid has brought mixed political reaction by the locals in his native city Pasrur.
Local PML-N leaders and workers were disappointed with his resignation while the local workers of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PTI) warmly welcomed his resignation.
President PML-N Youth Wing Overseas Pakistanis and Zahid Hamid’s son Ali Zahid, while talking to the newsmen at his Dera in Pasrur city, said “we fully respect the judiciary’s orders, thus his father Zahid Hamid sent his resignation to Prime Minister after the court’s verdict against him.
He said senior lawyers from government would make final decision after the detailed verdict by the court, in this regard. Zahid Hamid had been the Federal Minister for Law in former Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz’s cabinet, when the President of Pakistan General Pervaiz Musharraf had imposed emergency in the country on November 2007.
Zahid Hamid had resigned from PML-Q before the 2008 general elections and had joined PML-N. Originally from Pasrur in Sialkot district, this is his third consecutive term in the National Assembly.
Between 2002 and 2007, he won the general elections on a PML-Q ticket and served as one of the key ministers in the Musharraf-Shujaat regime. He held the portfolio of law until 2007.
