KARACHI: Karachi Water & Sewerage Board (KWSB) has assigned Osmani & Company (Pvt) Ltd as a consultancy firm for the great water supply project of Karachi, K-IV.
Managing Director KWSB Syed Hashim Raza Zaidi and Chairman Osmani & Company Inam Osmani signed and exchanged the documents of contract at MD KWSB office in an agreement signing ceremony.
Director Osmani & Company Arif Osmani, Col (r) Ajmal Rasheed, Asim Osmani, Brig (r) Naseem, Muhammed Ahtesham, Agha Manzoor, Project Director K-IV Saleem Siddiqui, Project Manager K-IV Qaisar Ali and all the DMDs of KWSB were present.
MD KWSB said K-IV being a paramount important project would bring revolution in the economic, trade, industrial and social life of Karachi. It would enrich the progress of the city and the resources of country.
“It is an auspicious day for Karachiites as the project pending since 2006 has practically been started. We would speedily work on the project and try to complete it before three years and its designing would be completed within nine months,” he said.
He said the cost of the project was estimated to be over Rs25 billion, which would be completed by federal and provincial government’s funding. Initial fund for the project has been released and no hurdle would be faced in getting more funds.
“The project is inevitable for the city; therefore, it’s designing and development work would be done on emergency basis. A 1000-feet wide and 124km long corridor would be constructed for the project,” he said.
Zaidi said water would be brought from Keenjhar Lake to Karachi. The corridor would start from southern bank of the lake and end in eastern district of Northern Bypass near Gulshan-e-Mymar, as the present reservoirs of water could not fulfill the needs of the city. “The city could get 260 million gallon additional water after completion of the project.”
Meanwhile, PD K-IV thanked God that the K-IV project had started for the ease of citizens and added starting of the project was not possible without the cooperation of federal and provincial governments, chief minister Sindh, chairman KWSB and minister for local government and chief secretary Sindh.
He thanked commissioner Karachi and deputy commissioner Malir for cooperation and allotting land for the project.
Chairman Osmani & Company said the consultancy of the project was a pride for them and they would make every possible effort to complete the project in minimum possible time ensuring high quality.
“We are planning to quickly discuss the technicality of the project. We would try out best to complete the project before the committed time,” he said.
