KARACHI: A city court on Wednesday disposed a plea seeking a registration of an FIR against Pakistan Rangers officials and superintendent of central prison on charges of murdering Tariq Mehboob who was in died in ranger’s detention.
Athar Mehboob, brother of deceased Tariq Mehboob moved an application before the additional District & Sessions judge East, Inamullah Kalhoro. The applicant claimed that his brother was tortured by rangers but the police was reluctant to register a FIR against them, he pleaded to the judge to direct the SHO New Town to book a murder FIR on his complaint.
The judge remarked that a judicial inquiry of the matter was already underway under a magistrate, Wasim Ahmed and no action could be taken until its report is endowed. The plaintiff was asked to appear before the inquiry officer if he had any proof.
Anjuman Naujwanan-e-Islam chief Tariq Mehboob was detained by rangers for 90-day on 16 April for alleged providing shelter to target killers. Just two days after his detention he was found dead, the rangers claimed that his death was natural causes whereas his survivors alleged that he was subjected to torture.
