ISLAMABAD: A single bench of Islamabad High Court (IHC) comprising Justice Amir Farooq on Tuesday allowed noted business leader SM Muneer to take part in upcoming elections of the FPCCI.
Few days back a group of businessmen participating in FPCCI elections had filed a petition against SM Muneer for interfering in elections process on which the court had issued stay orders.
Salman Akram Raja, Ghulam Sabir Malik, Qamar Afzal and Ali Rana advocates appeared in the court on the behalf of SM Muneer. They said that their client is a respectable citizen of Pakistan who is widely respected for his role and services among people of Pakistan and the business community.
SM Muneer has served on important positions in different chambers of commerce and trade associations and that he has never used his official capacity and resources to gain political mileage, the advocates added.
The court expressed satisfaction over arguments and ordered modification in the stay order allowing petitioner to take part in the elections of the apex chamber.
Meanwhile, the same court on a petition filed by Chief Coordinator UBG Malik Sohail Hussain suspended the notification issued by Directorate General of Trade Organizations in favour of Mohmand Chamber of Commerce.
The petitioner had prayed that the orders giving legal cover to Mohmand Agency Chamber were illegal based on mala fide intentions and that no member of nominee of the said chamber should be allowed to participate in the FPCCI elections as it would be illegal. The court suspended the notification of DGTO till next hearing.
