Court issues NBW for arrest of IO in Baldia factory fire case

KARACHI: An Additional District & Sessions Judge West Naushaba kazi on Saturday issued Non-Bail-able Warrants (NBW) for the arrest of an Investigation officer (IO) Sub-Inspector Jahanzaib over his absence in the hearing of Baldia Town factory fire case.

IO Sub-Inspector Jahanzaib was directed to appear before the court but he did not appear on which the court expressed its displeasure. The Judge issued NBW for the arrest of IO and ordered police to arrest and produce him on the next hearing, 7 March 2015. The court also ordered for his salary to be stopped.

Meanwhile Special Prosecutor Shazia Hanjra appeared before the court and formally informed it that she was withdrawing herself from the factory fire case. Hanjra, a private practicing lawyer, was appointed specially for the case on behalf of the state.

According to sources, Hanjra had separated herself from the case due to non-cooperation of IO. Hanjra, had still not received a copy of investigation documents from investigating authorities.

At least 259 people were burnt alive in the inferno in Ali Enterprises garment factory in Baldia Town Karachi on 11th September 2012.
