ISLAMABAD: A local court on Thursday given National Database and Registration Authority’s (Nadra) Deputy Assistant Director Qamar Nadeem and ASI Khan Munawar in Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) custody on three-day physical remand.

The two officials are alleged of providing National Identity Cards (NIC) to Afghan refugees for lacs of rupees. The Nadra officials were presented before senior civil judge Abdul Ghafoor Kakar.

The counsel for the accused said that his client used to refer the Afghan nationals to higher-ups who are not nominated in the case.

However, the investigation officer said that the agency needs to nab other criminals and agents involved in the case in light of Nadra’s arrested officials’ confessions. The court granted physical remands of both the accused to FIA for three days. The agency has been ordered to produce the accused on next hearing.
