QUETTA: A crackdown has been launched against inactive and fake NGOs in Balochistan under National Action Plan.
Industries Department has suspended registration of 1226 NGOs registered with it while social Welfare Department has decided to cancel registration of 1486 NGOs.
According to Industries Department sources 1226 NGOs and educational societies are registered with. After implementation of National Action Plan Industries Department has decided to scrutinize registered NGOs in the province and issues notices to all the NGOs with directives to provide information about source of income, projects completed during five years, assistance sought from foreign organizations, details of bank accounts. Some of these NGOs failed to provide information and they have been suspended for three months.
On the other hand Social Welfare Department has also undertaken scrutiny of 1500 registered NGOs with it. It has come to know that of 1601 registered NGOs only 115 have verified them again. Thereupon Department has written to Secretary Social Welfare a letter to cancel registrations of 1486 NGOs.
