Crackdown on quacks: 44 illegal clinics sealed in Karachi

KARACHI: Director Health Karachi Dr Zafar Ejaz on Monday said that 44 illegal medical clinics, maternity homes and dental clinics have been sealed across the Karachi city, while notices also served to 435 doctors over various irregularities so far.

He informed PPI that a comprehensive anti-quackery drive was launched across the city under the supervision of Town Health Officers (THOs) and district administration about a month ago. He said raid teams have successfully sealed around 44 medical clinics, maternity homes and dental clinics across the city that were not following the health department’s instructions.

He said teams also served notices to over 435 doctors throughout the city over various irregularities like not displaying MBBS degree or certificates in their clinics. He said quack doctors are playing with the lives of citizens and crackdown on these fake health practitioners will continue.

He said crackdown on quacks has been continued with the support of police and representatives of deputy commissioners. He said doctors and maternity home practitioners to should display their licenses and attested copies of their MBBS certificates in their clinics and maternity homes; otherwise, strict action will be taken against them.

He applauded the performance of Town Health Officers of Malir, Saddar and Lyari towns by launching comprehensive crackdowns on the quack doctors in their respective areas.
