Demand to better work conditions in Pakistan

Karachi: National Trade Union Federation (NTUF) has demanded of the government to improve work conditions so that the culture of decent work could be introduced in Pakistan.

Addressing a rally of workers at Gadani Ship Breaking Yard on the occasion of “Decent Work Day”, the NTUF leaders said working conditions in Pakistan are pathetically poor. The day was observed on the appeal of Industriall Global Union on October 7, all over the world.

NTUF central deputy general secretary Nasir Mansoor said the ILO stresses on decent work. He said it is necessary that workers are given better wages, work safety, social security, pension benefits and other privileges and rights as per labor laws and conventions.

NTUF president Rafiq Baloch and Bashir Ahmed Mehmoodani also spoke. They demanded to end contract labor system. They said the right of forming labor unions should be given to labors in all industries. They demanded Rs20000 per month minimum wages. They asked to end use of anti terrorism act cases against workers of power loom sector.
