Demand to hold student unions’ polls

Karachi: Students’ unions are necessary to cultivate the future leadership for Pakistan and educational institutions like colleges and universities in whole country should hold their elections without further delay.

This was said by Pasban e Pakistan President Altaf Shakoor here Tuesday. He said the vested interests have virtually banned the entry of low-income people in politics, as the politics in Pakistani society is the musical chair game of the elite class.

He regretted that for last 31 years no elections of student unions have been conducted in Pakistani colleges and universities which is a conspiracy to deprive the nation from a brave, patriotic and innovative young alternate leadership. He said same is the case of local bodies elections, as these elections are held in dictatorships, but the democratic governments are reluctant to hold timely local bodies elections.

Shakoor demanded for the government, educational bureaucracy, political parties and their student wings to announce a conduct of code for holding elections of students’ unions on urgent basis and hold these polls without a further delay.
