Demo held against non-arrest of Prof Yasir’s murderers

KARACHI: Journalists, teachers and students on Monday staged a protest demonstration outside the Karachi Press Club (KPC) against the Provincial government of Sindh for showing negligence in arresting the murderers of Professor Waheed-ur-Rehman (Yasir Rizvi) and paying compensation to bereaved family.

The protestors, including senior journalists, teachers and students of University of Karachi and Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST), carrying placards and banners, shouted slogans against the non-payment of compensation to family of deceased professor and frivolous attitude to arrest the culprits.

Addressing the protest, newly elected General Secretary of Karachi Press Club, AH Khanzada said that the murder of Dr. Yasir Rizvi after Prof Shakil Auj, shows negligence of Sindh government. He said the irony is that neither the involved persons in the murder case are arrested after the passage of nine months, nor the family had been paid compensation announced by Chief Minister Sindh.

Khanzada warned the Sindh government that if the issue of compensation and arrest of killers was not resolved the circle of protest would be enlarged in future.

Another senior journalist, Maqsood Yousufi said government has completely failed to provide justice to people. He said it is government’s responsibility to ensure provision of justice to the people.

A senior teacher and colleague of deceased Yasir Rizvi, Professor Tauseef Ahmed Khan said the promises were made with the family of Prof Yasir Rizvi, were not fulfilled by the Sindh government. He said the teachers and student only wants provision of justice by the authorities.

He said this matter is directly connected with teachers and students so their movement will remain continue till their demands are met.
