Deputy Special Representative of the UNSG for Afghanistan calls on Tariq Fatemi

Islamabad: Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for Afghanistan, Mr. Nicholas Haysom, called on the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Foreign Affairs (SAPM), Syed Tariq Fatemi on Wednesday.

During the meeting the discussion focused on regional issues including Afghanistan and the recently held Presidential elections.

The SAPM emphasized the importance Pakistan attaches to building close cooperative relations with Afghanistan in diverse fields.

He reiterated Pakistan’s support for peaceful political transition in Afghanistan and stressed the importance of the international community’s continued engagement on the economic plan for sustainable peace in Afghanistan and the region.

The SAPM expressed the hope that the UN would continue to make its contribution to the efforts for peace, stability and development.
