KARACHI: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan on Tuesday said Eduljee Dinshaw Road Project would create visitor-friendly area to attract public which was an excellent idea to spread peace in the city.
“The restoration of a Hindu temple is also on agenda in the project which would help minorities feel secured and supported,” he said while inaugurating the project in a groundbreaking ceremony at Old Customs House.
He said that it was a public-private partnership project to be built with support of business community and after its completion musicians and painters would be given chance to exhibit their talent and earn money in the public gathering.
Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui said the journey for promoting love and peace in Karachi had started by the project and it would spread across the city to the other towns and areas as well.
Siddiqui said that with the governor’s support approval for beautification of Empress Market’s surroundings had also been gotten.
Collector Custom (Preventive) Tariq Huda said the project was a fruit of an effort that was started six months back.
“We as a business community want to repay to Karachi which, despite bad law and order, is jewel of Pakistan and still generating over 70 percent revenue of all the country,” he said.
He lauded the governor and commissioner for embracing the project.
Architect Designer Shahid Abdullah said the environment around Customs House would be completely changed within months.
“I pray to Allah, the Almighty to make the project successful and guide us,” he said.
He played a 3-minute video showing how beautiful the road would be after completion of first phase.
Under the project, the area from Karachi Port Trust building to Hindu temple would be beautified on modern scales. The project is planned to be made beautiful, family friendly, traffic-free and comfortable. The proposal for the project was made months back in a meeting, under the chairmanship of Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui.
Chief Collector-Enforcement (South) Nazim Saleem, Administrator Karachi Rauf Akhter Farooqui, Architect Designer Danish Zuby, diplomats and business community were also present.
