ISLAMABAD: Mr Hans Wechsel, Director, Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor South and Central Asia Office and Mr Kees Van Baar, the Netherlands Ambassador for Human Rights called on Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Sardar Mohammad Yousaf here on Thursday.
Matters pertaining to the current situation of human rights were discussed during the meeting. The minister informed the leaders of HROs of both countries that the government is committed to protect the lives and properties of minority communities besides promoting interfaith harmony in Pakistan.
He apprised them that concerted efforts are being made by the government to uplift their socio-economic conditions and to bring them in the mainstream of society. He said Pakistan is moderate Islamic State where people are living with peace without any difference of sect or creed, caste and religion.
He also informed them that the present government had re-constituted the National Commission for Minorities to promote interfaith harmony and redress the grievances of the minority communities to bring them at par to the other citizens of the country.
He said the Ministry was taking every possible measure to promote a unified, safe and peaceful vision of Pakistan by fostering religious forbearance and an attitude of tolerance amongst the people.
Both leaders of HROs, appreciated the minister for initiatives taken by the Pakistan’s government for the protection the rights of minorities. They assured that cooperation at every level would continue for resolving the issues of the protection of human rights in Pakistan. MNA Ms Asia Nasir and high officials of Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony were also present during the meeting.
