Abbottabad:,,, Strike of the young doctors of Ayub Teaching hospital (ATH) Abbottabad entered in fourth day and they have boycotted the OPDs, operation theaters and ward rounds along with three other teaching hospitals of the province, leaving the patients to suffer.

The YDA, body of young doctors comprising Trainees Medical officers and House officers have been united in all the four teaching hospitals of the province including ATH and observed strike and suspended the services including medical cover.

Their charter of demand includes Service structure and free medical cover for all the patients in public sector hospitals. Most of the senior doctors including professors, associate professors, assistant professors as well as registrars also remained absent from duties which increased the miseries of the patients.

In a surprising move, Peoples Doctors Forum (PDF) KPK in a statement has announced the support of the agitation of Young doctors association in the province and expressed concern over the failure of provincial government in resolving doctor’s genuine problems.

PDF meeting presided by provincial President Professor Nisar  asked the provincial government to take the matter seriously at their earliest before that entire doctors community would join the move.

He further said that despite the upgradatation of teaching cadre of Ayub Medical College by Peshawar High court, no action has been taken by the provincial health department, which he termed it disappointing.

PDF Spokesman Dr Daud Iqbal in his statement stressed the provincial government for awarding service structure to the general cadre of doctors and allocation of seats for the Teachers children in medical colleges. He said that elected representatives have been continuously increasing their perks and privileges but feeling ashamed to resolve the genuine demands of doctor’s community.

He warned of complete doctor’s strike in all over the province and closure of even emergency service if government would not take it seriously and resolve the issues. PDF also announced their all out support to Young Doctors Association in their demands.

Dr Majid, President YDA Ayub Teaching Hospital told this correspondent that they would continue their strike till accepting of their demands specially the provision of service structure to doctors. He told that they have closed the OPD and other services in hospital and had extended the strike to other hospitals of the province.
