SIALKOT: A Pakistani civilian Mohammad Shareef (60) son of Allah Wadaya was martyred in unprovoked intensified heavy mortar shelling by Indian Border Security Forces (BSF) in Sialkot border village Thathi Khurd of Sucheetgarh Sector along the Sialkot Working Boundary here on Tuesday.

According to the District Coordination Officer (DCO) Sialkot Dr. Asif Tufail, the people were sleeping in their homes in Sialkot border villages , when the Indian BSF started unprovoked heavy mortar shelling in Sucheetgarh and Charwah sectors along the Sialkot Working Boundary here early in this morning.

Sialkot DCO added that an old man Mohammad Shareef (60 years old) was sleeping in the courtyard of his house in village Thathi Khurd-Sucheetgarh, when some mortar shells fired by Indian BSF badly hit him, killing him on the spot. His house was also badly damaged by Indian shells there, he added.

As many as six cattle were also reportedly killed by intensified Indian BSF shelling, while more than two dozen of the cattle were injured in these villages.

Martyred Mohammad Shareef was laid to rest in his native graveyard amid sobs and tears. A large number of the people from all walks of life attended his funeral.

As many as 50 houses of Pakistani people in Sialkot border villages Charwah, Dhamaala, Rangor, Bhagiyaari (in Charwah sector) and villages Thathi Khurd, Sucheetgarh, Thathi Kalan, Kulhar, Thathi, Meendarwal and surroundings in Sucheetgarh Sector of Sialkot Working Boundary here today.

According to the local people, they were sleeping in their houses early in this morning (today), when the Indian BSF started unprovoked intensified heavy mortar shelling target the civilian population there. A local woman Misbah Bibi said that the local people took the shelter in the paved houses in village Thathi Khurd-Sucheetgarh to save their lives.

Local councillor Muhammad Younas said that the Indian shelling created a panic and harassment among the local people.

Local people including Malik Asad, Ch. Latif Wains, Manzur Hussain , Kubra Bibi and Mohammad Hussain said that the Indian BSF showered heavy mortar shells due to which more than 50 houses were badly damaged in these villages.

Several houses of the local villagers were also badly damaged by unprovoked mortar shelling on these Sialkot border villages in Sucheetgarh and Charwah Sectors of Sialkot Working Boundary here today. He said that the boundary walls, roof top walls, roofs and streets walls in these villages were badly damaged by the Indian mortar shells there.

Several heavy mortar shells fired by Indian BSF landed into local fields and could not explode, he added.

Indian shelling victim, martyred Mohammad Shareef’s grieved family and heirs staged anti India protest demonstrations by placing the dead bodies in village’s Chowk. They lodged their strong protest against the Indian BSF hostilities in Sialkot border villages along the Sialkot Working Boundary here today. They also chanted anti-India slogans there.

They urged the Pakistan government to take up the burning nasty issue of Indian BSF mounting hostilities along Sialkot Working Boundary to the UNO and all the other main international forums.

Earlier, the Indian Border Security Forces (BSF) resorted to unprovoked intensified firing on Sialkot border villages Charwah and Sucheetgarh sectors of Sialkot Working Boundary here almost the whole of the last night (the night between Monday and Tuesday) intermittently here.
