SIALKOT: Commissioner Gujranwala Division Shamail Ahmed Khawaja on Monday gave a deadline of June 30, 2015 for the completion of repairing and renovation work of Iqbal Manzil (the birth place of Allama Iqbal, the poet of the East) in Sialkot.
He said the Punjab government has focused on the early rehabilitation and preservation of ancient Iqbal Manzil in its original design and shape. He said renovation and repairing of Iqbal Manzil was briskly underway, which would be completed till June 30, 2015.
He stated this while talking to newsmen at Govt. Murray College Sialkot. Sialkot DCO Nadeem Sarwar and College Principal Prof Javaid Akhtar Billah were also present on the occasion.
The Commissioner said that Iqbal Manzil was the national heritage and government was making all out sincere efforts to preserve Iqbal Manzil in its original design and shape. He also reviewed the repairing work of Iqbal Manzil and directed the concerned officials to jazz up the pace of construction work, in this regard.
He announced early establishment of a great wall of Sialkot, attributed to son of soil of Sialkot Allama Iqbal, saying that the murals of Allama Iqbal’s poetry and art would be displayed on this great wall of Sialkot, which would be reflecting the imagination of Iqbal’s poetry and philosophy.
He pledged to make all out efforts to give Sialkot, city of Allama Iqbal, a look of the imagination of Allama Iqbal, saying that Sialkot city’s congested Allama Iqbal Chowk and other areas should be reflecting the imagination of Allama Iqbal, besides, preserving the historical and culture importance of Sialkot city, in this regard.
He also announced the beautification of historical Sialkot Fort and said that the tough tiles would be affixed in and around this fort with total cost of Rs. 10 million, besides, saving this historical fort in its original design and shape. TMA was also establishing a recreational park in this fort.
Later, while addressing the participants of a seminar held at the auditorium of Govt. Murray College Sialkot (the alma mater of Allama Iqbal) here on Monday, on the eve of 77th death anniversary of Allama Iqbal, Shamail Ahmed Khawaja said that the teachings of Allama Iqbal are like a beacon of light to maintain tolerance, peace and stability in the society.
