DUHS gets second pro-vice chancellor

KARACHI: Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) administration has appointed another pro-vice chancellor on same post after failing to remove Prof Dr Umer Farooq, sources told PPI on Thursday.

The Dow University administration has posted Prof Dr Mohammad Masroor as pro-vice chancellor of university on same post. A notification in this regard has been issued.

Sources at DUHS said that differences between Vice Chancellor DUHS Prof Masood Hameed Khan and Pro-Vice Chancellor Umer Farooq further escalated a few days ago and a summery was to the competent authority for removal of pro-vice chancellor from his post.

However, Pro-Vice Chancellor DUHS Prof Dr Umer Farooq got stay order from the court. Later, the administration posted Dr Masroor as pro-vice chancellor for four years and a notification was issued in this regard.

Some senior faculty members of Dow University expressed their concern on working of two persons on the same posts and feared the decision would not augur well for the institution.

Earlier, Prof Dr Masroor was posted as professor of Dow International Medical College.

However, Vice Chancellor DUHS Prof Masoor Hameed Khan said as per rules two pro-vice chancellors can be appointed in the institution but their responsibilities would be different from each others. He said Prof Umer Farooq still continue to work on the post of pro-vice chancellor.
