KARACHI: Dow Diagnostic Reference and Research Laboratory and Molecular Pathology Department, Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS), organized a workshop and two-day training on “Skills Enhancement and Professional Development of Health Care Workers” at (DDRRL).
The successful organization of this workshop became possible due to the support, efforts and commitment of Vice Chancellor DUHS Prof Dr Masood Hameed Khan, Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Masroor, Prof Dr Shaheen Sharafat Director DDRRL, Dr Saeed Khan, Prof Dr Talat Mirza and Shafat Bugti and with the day and night efforts of all the members of the organizing committee of the workshop.
The aim of this workshop and two-day training is to enhance the skills of staff (Phlebotomists and receptionists) from outreach and main laboratory of DDRRL, and to train them on the new software launched for the lab, basic bio-safety and to improve their skills to deal with patients. In this event more than 150 participants acquired training from different collections points.
The inaugural ceremony was presided by Vice Chancellor of Dow University of Health Sciences, who urged the importance of training and preparedness, and declared the healthcare profession as a noble and sacred profession. During the session an informative and interactive lecture was delivered by Dr Saeed Khan (PhD, Head of Molecular Pathology), on the Role and Responsibilities of Phlebotomists.
He explained the duties and basic responsibilities of phlebotomists. Then useful lecture by Shafat Bugti (Manager Outreach) on the “Guidelines for Receptionists” was also delivered. Basic guidelines were also shared for the personal at reception to deal with patient on reception. Another important, useful and interactive lectures were delivered by Noorulain and Sehrish-Binte-Mohsin (Medical Technologists and Biosafety officers at Molecular Pathology Department) on “Basic Biosafety and Survival Skills”.
After the lecture session, participants were given introduction and hand on training of new software for the lab. Vice chancellor Prof Dr Masood Hameed Khan distributed certificates among participants.
On the second day the concluding session was chaired by Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Masroor. He congratulated the organizers for conducting a successful workshop.
