Islamabad: Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid has stressed the need to promote mother tongue with an aim to deepen and enrich knowledge of the people.
Speaking at a ceremony at Pakistan Academy of Letters in Islamabad in connection with International Mother Tongue Day, he said national and mother languages play important role in development of literature.
He emphasized culture cannot be promoted by adopting other languages.
The Minister pointed out that mother language was the most powerful instrument of preserving and developing national heritage.
The ceremony was attended by prominent literary figures and analysts from around the country.
They also highlighted the vital role of mother language in national uplift and floated several proposals for its promotion.
Earlier, the Minister planted a sapling on the premises of Pakistan Academy of Letters.
