Elected councillors take oath

KARACHI: Newly elected Local Government (LG) representatives on Thursday took oaths in different districts of Sindh.

According to Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) sources, the elected LG members took oath in Sindh for their offices in municipal committees, town committees, district councils and union committees.

In Karachi, about 1,500 newly elected local government representatives of 209 union committees of city’s six districts and 38 union councils of the Karachi District Council also took the oath.

As per schedule, the oath taking ceremonies were held in different districts. In Karachi 186 local government representatives of South Zone took oath at YMCA Ground. The number of representatives who took oath in district West Zone was 276. However, 222 representatives took oath in District Korangi. In District East 186 representatives took an oath in Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science & Technology (FUUAST).

In District Malir, the ceremony of oath taking was held in Old DMC Building at Quaidabad where 78 representatives took oath. However, in District East the numbers of local government representatives was 306 and they took oath in Karachi Medical and Dental College. Other 38 members took oath in District Council successfully.

All the elected members took oath from District Returning Officers and Honourable Judges. Additional Session Judges and DROs administered oath from the local government representatives
