Embezzlement of Funds: NAB KP arrests Four Big Fishes in Mega Scam of Peshawar Vegetable Market

Peshawar: NAB Khyber Pakhtunkhwa arrested four high profile Office Bearer of Peshawar Market Committee including Usman Alam Khan Jhagra Chairman, Malik Mohammad Ali Sohni Vice Chairman, Arbab Altaf Qadir Ex-Chairman Sub-Committee (A&R) and Malik Amir Zeb Inspector who are allegedly involved in embezzlement of Govt Funds in Peshawar Market Committee of Agricultural Deptt Peshawar and caused huge loss of Rs. 198.28 Million to the Government exchequer.

During the course of inquiry, it was revealed that Administration of Peshawar Market Committee allotted 72 plots and 265 mini shops during the period of 2007 – 2012 and collected cost of these shops / plots from allottees but did not deposit the collected amount in the Government treasury.

Furthermore, the streets were converted into Commercial Shops, area reserved for public amenities were allotted and shops were constructed thereon. Even, Peshawar Market Committee Admn Block was not spared and allotted for commercial purposes / shops for vested interests.

The sound planning was all together ignored for commission and undue benefits by the above arrested accused in sheer violation of approved Master Plan.

It is worth mentioning here that the Project was funded by Asian Development Bank (ADB) and complete amount was taken as loan by the Government.

Inquiry is being actively pursued and more arrests are expected. The accused persons will be produced before the Accountability Court Peshawar for obtaining their physical remand.
