Encroachments reappear in Saddar

Karachi: Encroachments have again reappeared in Saddar area on all four roads surrounding the historical building of Empress Market, causing immense problems for citizens.

Despite repeated efforts of officials of Saddar Town, KMC, Commissioner Office and Governor House, the chaotic issue of encroachments in Saddar area is yet to be resolved. Special teams raid and remove encroachments one evening and next morning they reappear at the same locations. Dozens of anti-encroachment operations in this area have failed to deliver. The citizens have appreciated the efforts of government to make this area free from encroachments and they suggest taking these efforts on continuous and sustainable basis to solve the issue for good.

The solution to the issue needs to swiftly implement the second phase of public transport re-routing in the area, install iron grills on footpaths and monitor the area seven days a week, with a permanent camp of anti-encroachment team in the area, equipped with machinery and backed by police and rangers’ support to check lawlessness. Installation of secret cameras on every street corner of this locality is a must, not only from the point of view of encroachments, but also to ensure foolproof security in this highly crowded area.

The success of anti-encroachment drive in Saddar, Empress Market would not only give relief to motorists, commuters and pedestrians in this busy commercial and residential area, but also provide and solid success example to be replicated in other such areas to make Karachi an encroachment-free city.
