Extortionists jailed for five years

KARACHI: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) has awarded five imprisonments along with Rs 25,000 fine each to two persons, Dilawar and Mohammad Rasheed involved in demanding extortion.

The ATC judge found both the convicts guilty of demanding extortion of Rs5 million from a man namely Mohammad Anwar in 2013. The judge pronounced the verdict after recording witnesses’ statements, evidences and arguments from both sides.

According to the prosecution, the convicts had demanded Rs5 million from Mohammad Anwar as ‘protection money’ in 2013. The accused threatened the man for dire consequences if he refused to pay the extortion.

The court observed that charges against the accused proved without any shadow of doubt.

The ATC judge five, five -year imprisonment along with Rs 25,000 fine to both the convicts who will have to undergone an additional six-month imprisonment if they fail to pay the fine amount.
