KARACHI: The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) thanked the chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) for extending the date of filing of income tax returns till 31st October 2015 and facilitating the filers and especially the SMEs.
President UNISAME Zulfikar Thaver said extension became necessary as due to Eid holidays and the fact that pilgrims have not yet returned it was advisable to extend time to enable all to file returns. Moreover, it is incumbent upon the FBR to make it convenient, smooth and easy for the filers as they have to obtain figures from the banks and institutions of withholding tax (WHT) deducted by them and for this they needed time.
He said it is not a question of tax payment as the WHT is deducted from salaries, commissions, exports, imports and no body is spared. It is a question of filing the return with proper figures and appreciated the FBR’s comprehension and co- operation.
The FBR really needs to get after the smugglers, land mafia and the tax evaders rather than honest law abiding citizens and SMEs who pay their taxes regularly and sincerely.
Secondly, he requested the FBR that the income tax Practioners and the tax return filers are trying to file returns but cannot do so smoothly because the website is closed for maintenance for almost 5 to 6 hours a day causing failure to file the return. Those who get through are considered lucky.
UNISAME has urged the FBR to make the system efficient and make it accessible for the applicants and also to simplify the return forms.
Finally UNISAME has also urged the authorities to resolve the issue of non filers and not burden those who are not obliged to file by virtue of being exempted due to income below the taxable limit and SME farmers deriving income from small farms and not obliged to file returns by virtue of agricultural income and also not owning assets as defined in the list issued by FBR.
