Five killed in Karachi encounters

KARACHI: At least five alleged criminals were killed in separate operations by law enforcement agencies in Karachi on Monday overnight.

According to police, two encounters took place in the crime-infested areas of Lyari and Mochko.

Police claimed that the alleged criminals identified as Irfan, Lal Mohammad and Fazal, aged around 30 to 40 years, were killed in Baghdadi. They were wanted in cases of extortion and kidnapping for ransom. They belonged to Lyari-based criminal gang war groups.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) City Fida Hussain said police forces were carrying out a search operation in Baghdadi area of Lyari where suspects opened fire on the law enforcers and killed during encounter.

A similar encounter took place in the jurisdiction Mochko police station, where two suspected criminals were killed.

Hussain claimed that suspected criminals indentified as Abdul Jabbar and Ahmed, aged 30 to 35 years, were killed and weapons recovered from them including two SMGs and grenade launchers.
