KARACHI: In a crackdown against profiteers, 15 shopkeepers were charged with Rs330,000 fine for selling commodities above government rates. Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui said that the campaign launched against profiteers would continue till they ensured that the commodities were sold at rates fixed by the city administration.
He further said that city administration had focused those areas where complaints against price hike were received. These areas included Airport, Ibrahim Hyderi and others in the city.
In the crackdown, 11 milkmen, one shopkeeper of general commodities, two chicken sellers and one flour seller were fined for selling essential items at excessive prices while five persons were jailed for selling milk at excessive rates.
