Five profiteers jailed, 83 fined

KARACHI: In a crackdown against profiteers in different parts of the city, 83 shopkeepers were charged with Rs214,200 fine for selling commodities above fixed rates. Five profiteers were sent to jail for continuous violation of the commodity rates.

Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui has said that the campaign launched against profiteers would continue till they ensured that the commodities were sold at rates fixed by the administration.

In the crackdown, 46 milkmen, 16 shopkeepers of general commodities, 18 chicken sellers and three vegetable seller and three fruit sellers were fined for selling essential items at excessive prices.
