Flour Millers warn if supply to KP not restored wheat export from Punjab to Afghanistan will be blocked

Peshawar: Flour millers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa alleged that Punjab government has been violating  article 151 of the constitution by stopping wheat supply from Punjab to Khyber Pukhtunkhwa adding that if supply to the province is not restored within a week  no truck will  be allowed to carry wheat from Punjab to Afghanistan.

Anees Ashraf, Chairman All Pakistan Flour Millers Association told a  a news conference on Monday in violation of article  151of the constitution  Punjab government  has suspended the wheat supply to Khyber Pukhtunkhwa from last  one month.

“we are forced to shut-down units owing to non-available of sufficient stock of wheat, which would  cause massive unemployment in Khyber Pukhtunkhwa” chairman All Pakistan Flour Millers Association said.

Ashraf said wheat export to Afghanistan from Khyber Pukhtunkhwa has been minimized after sharp rise in wheat prices in the province. .

Flanked by Haji Mossarat Shah, vice president of APFMA KP chapter, Sartaj the association chairman from Malakand division, he said that now Afghan importers are directly purchasing wheat  from Punjab which is causing financial losses to local flour millers.

He said that  Punjab food department said that ban on wheat supply to KP will continue till Punjab government fulfil its procurement target of 40million ton wheat in Punjab and during this period wheat supply to local market of Punjab will also be suspended.

With the bane, he said the prices of wheat in KP would not be in control besides export to Afghanistan from Khyber Pukhtunkhwa will also be badly affected.

The Flour Millers Association said if wheat supply to Khyber Pukhtunkhwa is  not restored within a week the association will not allow any truck supply wheat directly from Punjab to Khyber Pukhtunkhwa.
