KARACHI: The area covered by the forests in the country has decreased from 1,50,000 square miles to 60,000 square miles; in this regard plantation campaigns have become a dire need. Plantation is not only imperative for the country’s environmental system but also needful to coup with the harmful effects of global warming.
These views were presented by Environmental Sciences Professor and Registrar of University of Karachi, Prof Dr Moazzam Ali Khan while addressing the inauguration ceremony of the Plantation Campaign organized jointly by WwF and Burger King at the campus.
Dr Moazzam said tree plantation campaigns are being started at a large scale in University of Karachi on the special sirectives of worthy Vice Chancellor Pro. Dr Mohammad Qaiser. He said to form a healthy and environment friendly environment its our national responsibility to plant more and more trees and actively participate in plantation campaigns as it will benefit the upcoming generations as well.
He said clean and healthy environment is highly imperative for the human life. on the occassion, many dignitaries were also present including Dean Science UoK Prof Dr Mohammad Naimatullah, President KUTS Prof Dr Jamil Hasan Kazmi, Dr Haris Soiab and Prof Dr Ahmed Qadri.
He said, this campaign is a part of the plantation campaign of spring 2015. This is a highly commendable act of Burger King of providing 500 Neem trees to UoK, he added. WWF are working tirelessly for a better and environment friendly atmosphere. Dean Sciences KU Prof. Dr. Mohammad Naimat ullah inaugurated the plantation campaign.
