KARACHI: Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) Standing Committee on Horticulture & Agriculture Produce hailed the decision by the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to announce Rs 341 billion special package for farmers who are the mainstay of the economy.
Chairman Ahmad Jawad said that announcing special package for farmers was the right decision at right time. Premier has done a great job to enrich agriculture growth. In past, we saw continues decline in the agriculture production, especially in rice and cotton crops. Now we hope that after announcement of this package, it will give a new push to this important crop to become competitive in the international markets.
“As we have to understand without cost competitive, no product has yield the desire results. I think federal government has intervened timely to gain the confidence of the farming community.” he added.
Jawad also said to cut in the mark-up of 2 pc in the agriculture loans by the PM and reduce the prices of the fertilizers would strengthen the farmer’s confidence towards government. He also lauded the decision for free interest loans on solar tube-wells up to seven years, including tariff subsidy on electricity tube-wells.
Similarly, the government should also create a mechanism for the relief of the sugar cane growers. FPCCI standing committee Chairman also demanded export subsidy on Pakistan horticulture products, especially in kinnow and fresh vegetables so that we may compete easily in international markets.
