KARACHI: “Pakistan can play an important role in the reconstruction and rehabilitation of Iraq in every sphere of life.”
Acting President of the Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI), Abdul Rahim Janoo said in a meeting with an Iraqi delegation comprising 20 members and headed by President Federation of Iraqi Chamber of Commerce Dr Abdul Hadi Al-Hatam at FPCCI Head Office.
Vice President FPCCI Shahnawaz Ishtiaq, Chairman Pakistan Association of Automotive Parts Accessories Manufacturers (PAAPAM) Siddique Misri, Chairman Karachi Wholesale Grocers Association Anis Majeed and large number of rice exporters were also present on the occasion.
Janoo said Iraq was going through the stage of reconstruction and rehabilitation and Pakistan could take the opportunity to help its economy and its people. “Iraq is a brotherly country and we wish to stand with it to address the problems of economic, industrial and exchange of experiences in various industrial developments.”
He briefed the delegation about the role of FPCCI in national economy, bilateral trades and economic relations with other countries. He said Pakistan had specialty in various fields like 3rd largest consumer and 4th largest producer of cotton, 4th largest producer of sugarcane, 6th largest orange producer, 11th largest wheat producer and 12th largest rice producer. He further said that there were tremendous opportunities for Iraqi business community to develop trade and economic relations with Pakistani business community.
Hadi Al-Hatam said exchange of information and contact of business peoples of both the countries could be enhanced through frequent exchange of trade delegations. President Iraqi Federation of Chambers of Commerce (IFCC) Riaz Al-Gizri said Iraq was diversifying its economy and the government had adopted the strategy of public-private-partnership in every field.
He said FPCCI and IFCC should establish a joint Pak – Iraq Chamber of Commerce. The suggestion was appreciated by Rahim Janoo and said that firstly we should activate Pak-Iraq Joint Business Council for bringing the business counterparts of both countries closer for enhancement of bilateral trade and economic activities.
Janoo signed two MoUs for bilateral trade, industrial and economic cooperation and frequent exchange of trade delegations and trade related information with Iraqi Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Basra Chamber of Industry.
