KARACHI: The Chairman of the Senate Standing committee on Science and Technology, Senator Sajjad Mir has said that National Institute of Oceanography (NIC) should be provided with new vessels and adequate funds so that it may complete its ongoing research projects.
Chairing a meeting held at the National Institute of Oceanography today, he said that for improving the capabilities of the institution, shortage of the manpower should be fulfilled. On this occasion, The Director General of the NIC Dr. Munaver Saleem gave a detailed briefing to the Senate Standing Committee about the work and achievements of the National Institute of Oceanography.
The Chairman and members of the Senate Standing Committee praised the performance of the NIC and also called for consolidated and concrete measures for further improvement in the Continental Shelf Extensive Project.
The Standing Committee Chairman further said that if the required vessels and funds are provided to NIC, this Institution would play a significant role in the marine life research. The Standing Committee termed the performance of the NIC positive and said that it should play its role for collecting data of the species present in the sea water of Pakistan.
The Chairman and members of the senate standing committee inspected the various research laboratories of the NIC and recommended for restructuring of the pay scale of the deputed Scientists and staff members.
Senator Karim Ahmed Khawaja, Senator Mrs. Almas Parveen, Senator Mrs. Naseema Ehsan, Senator Mufti Abdul Sattar, Senator Hidait Ullaha and Senator Farha Aqil attended the meeting.
